I was a huge fan of House of Cards until the most recent season. Doug Stamper, played by Michael Kelly is easily my favorite character of the show. He carries a mystery and darkness about him that brings me to wonder where his dedication to Frank Underwood comes from. What drives him? He's a serious, ferocious watchdog who is very efficient at what he does. I have a thing for efficient characters. I began my process of the work from this reference photo.

Building the contrast of the character is a tricky process. Here' I am working to choose colors that really bring definition to the shadows of Doug's face without hindering the line work done. I feel the line work is an important part of the art process and I do not want my color work to overshadow it.
